There has always been attention given to the activities of various celebrities. In recent years, celebrity news has become more popular. This trend has paved the way for more celebrity magazines to emerge in order to satisfy the public’s appetite for celebrity gossip. However, although celebrity magazines have had an impact on the magazine world, the magazines have also had an impact on Hollywood as well.

With the dramatic increase in attention the celebrity magazines provide, there has been both positive and negative effects in Hollywood. For instance, in a positive development, there has been a giant push for celebrities to promote charities and other organizations that strive to benefit humankind and the world at large. This promotion is done often through the celebrity magazines. When one of these stories is picked up by the gossip magazines, millions of people are made aware of these causes and can contribute to these benevolent organizations. Putting pressure on major organizations to enact change is something positive that celebrity magazines have done. Also, due to the fact that celebrities have recognizable names and therefore powerful voices, what celebrities say and the organizations that they support receive an increase in attention through celebrity magazines and other venues.

It is important to remember, however, that celebrity magazines are for entertainment. In many cases, no matter what magazines say about celebrities, the individuals that they are covering are sometimes people who do not want the hype. Obviously, these artists and power-brokers are in the public eye, but, in the end, many are just hardworking individuals who are doing what they love to do, and are not looking for extra attention. Nowadays, with so many celebrity magazines on the market, more reporters and photographers than ever before are fighting for stories and photos. This can be distracting to those that simply want to work in Hollywood or elsewhere, and in the worst cases, can affect the quality of their work. .

Consequently, the more celebrity magazines that are available to the public means more pages that are needed to be filled with celebrity gossip. The various magazines require stories and pictures to satisfy their readership. What this leads to, ultimately, is that each magazine must develop an angle to attract the reader, and sometimes these angles might not be accurate, or even an obvious lie. Some couples claim that the constant pressure from the celebrity magazines is what ultimately led to their breakups, and some claim that by doing these things out in public where everyone can see them, the couples themselves have allowed the magazines to have an impact on what they are doing and where they are going as a couple. This can be very entertaining for readers, but perhaps damaging to the stars’ career. Managing these situations from a public relations point of view is crucial to the stars maintaining a positive image.

There are stars, however, which use this spotlight to increase their status. The old adage, “there’s no such thing as bad press” is taken advantage of on a weekly basis. Publicity stunts are more common, as is outrageous behavior. Due to the broad spotlight that celebrity magazines cast, it has become difficult to determine whether or not a star’s behavior is genuine, or fabricated to get attention. Perhaps an artist wants attention that their roles or their records are not getting them; they can do something outrageous and get the coverage. Also, celebrities use the magazines to plug and promote the projects they are working on. A downside of this trend is that celebrity magazines pay handily for insider information, and some projects are leaked ahead of schedule. Many stars, actors in particular, feel that their believability in an on-screen role is compromised by the celebrity magazine’s focus on their personal lives. Clearly, the increase in popularity of celebrity magazines has become a force to be reckoned with in the Hollywood community.

Like many things, the impact on Hollywood from celebrity magazines has been both bad and good. For instance, there has been an upward trend in the amount of coverage that has been given to things that celebrities endorse and other organizations that celebrities feel are positive organizations. This coverage can only help those causes. Also, the magazines that talk about celebrities have a tendency to report on everything – and something that they are very good at doing is showing the nation at large that celebrities are just regular people. Because they are always going to be under scrutiny from the magazines, some celebrities try harder to project a positive image. The attention provided by celebrity magazines has engineered a general push in Hollywood for celebrities to stand as examples to the rest of the world. This has helped to provide more role models, as well. All of these things are a result of the celebrity magazines, and their current upward shift in popularity.

Lindsay Lohan had her day in court and managed to plea bargain in what critics claim is a case of justice miscarried. Charged on a misdemeanor of drunken driving and cocaine intake, the plea deal was made in the judge chambers and Lohan managed to get off with a day in jail, 10 days in community service and complete a drug rehab program. Lindsay has been charged with a previous DUI and this was a repeat charge which could easily have carried a more serious sentence.Lindsay Lohan had confessed ‘I am addicted to alcohol and drugs,’ the actress said in a statement.Lindsay Lohan was also placed under a 36 months probation in which she is required to complete an 18 month alcohol education program, pay fines and a three day coroner program. The coroner program for Lindsay Lohan will see her visit the morgue and talk to victims of drunken drivers.Lindsay accepted she broke the law and did things she was ashamed of “ I broke the law and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case,” She also added that her life had become unmanageable because she was addicted to alcohol and drugs,” Lohan said in a statement released by publicist Leslie Sloane Zelnik.Deputy district attorney Danette Meyers claimed that Lindsay was getting what every one else would after the hearing. The case was held in Los Angeles County Superior court by Judge H Chester Horn Jr.’s court room. Meyers also sounded the warning that if Lindsay were to get another DUI rap, she would get 120-day jail sentence. If actress Lohan violates her probation in any way, she will face up to a year on each of the drunken driving and cocaine charges and a 90 day in the can on the reckless driving charge.Lohan had been charged earlier with 7 misdemeanors from two drunken –driving arrests in the last 4 months. Serious felony charges on the cocaine were not pressed since the levels found in her body did not warrant them.Lohan was sentenced to a 96 hour jail term which is the mandatory minimum for a second drunken driving offence. However she was also given a 24 hour credit for hours already served and opted to complete an additional 10 days in community serve rather than go back to jail to complete the balance of 48 hours behind bars. This is said to be an option available for all second time drunken driving offenders. However she still has to serve 24 hours in the city or county jail. She is currently being treated at a residential rehabilitation center in Utah. She has to complete 30 days in-house for her mandatory treatment on the cocaine charges.Lindsay Lohan had been arrested on two different occasions on May 26 in Beverly Hills and on July 24 Santa Monica. Luckily, in each arrest, her cocaine levels were found to be less than the .05 required to file charges on cocaine abuse. Lohan had then been put on rehabilitation although she never kept her part of the bargain. Lindsay Lohan’s case follows a series of recent most famous celebrity DUI cases that have resulted in jail time. Paris Hilton concluded her 23 days in jail after she was convicted of driving on a suspended license while on probation for a DUI and reckless driving case. Nicole Ritchie spent four days in jail from a December DUI arrest. She however hardly spent more than two hours in a women’s jail.Former Paris Hilton attorney, Howard L. Weitzman said that Lindsay Lohan seems to be doing the advisable thing by owning up to her mistakes, paying for them and doing the best to put her life back in track.Lohan had in the May incident crashed her Mercedes-Benz into a tree on Sunset Boulevard and fled the scene to seek treatment. Spanning back to centuries we can track the origin of May Day – a day for celebration back in the period when Christ was not born. Like many other ancient festivals May Day too has a connection to the Pegan culture. May 1st was the second most vital holidays of the year for the Druids of the British Isles, since it was when actually the festival of Beltane held. It was believed that May Day (May 1st) divided the year into half – the other half to be ended with the Samhain on 1st day of November. It was those days when May Day customs was actually setting of new fire and New Year rites used to be held all over the world. The fire itself was believed to lend life and purity to the springtime sun and cattle was made to rush through the smoke for purification. Men used to walk through the smoke along with their soul mates with a hope to be blessed with good luck.

With the passage of days, celebration of May Day had subtle twists. By Middle Ages the English village had its Maypole, the bringing of which from the woods used to reveal loads of scopes for merrymaking.

Time has changed; so the way of celebrating the day too. It is celebrated each year through generosity and support of millions of generous Americans as days grow longer and blooming of buds. There are May Day marches and rallies held out in the various part of the country. The Nottingham Refugee Campaign Group is organizing a grand May Day march at the the famous Brewhouse Yard gardens, located near the Castle, Nottingham. There are many other rallies and marches across the nation and the ways of celebration have got a modern flavor. But even today celebration of May Day is still having a touch of ancient culture and tradition. Even today Maypole is still one of the major features of the May festivities with distinctive interpretations. But whatever way you look at it the theme of the May Day celebration is all about celebrating the renewal of life with new hopes, new dreams and new resolutions. In many parts of the country May Day flower baskets are made and treats are left at the thresholds of the loved ones as a token of good wishes and love to strengthen the bondage and to rekindle the lost touches.

She believe that these children are doomed to turn to violence if they are not educated, but if they are educated they will lead productive lives that will in turn lead to a better world.

Once Brad and Angelina became a pair, he too began traveling abroad with Angelina to assist her in her humanitarian work. Averaging $35 million per year, Brad has sunk a lot of money into various causes overseas including Cambodia where he and Angelina’s adopted son Maddox is from. He has also been responsible for funding rebuilding efforts in New Orleans after the destruction of Hurricane Katrina. So in addition to Angelina’s $20 million per year, they have created this super force that, instead of hoarding their money, they give it away.

This dynamic duo of advocates should be role models for many people. Doing things such as Angelina’s recent visit to troops in Iraq, despite the risk, and her other work as a UN ambassador should be a wonderful example to not only the fans, but to other celebrities who can bring joy to so many other lives by following suit. As for Brad’s rebuilding projects in New Orleans, if each millionaire offered to build one house, renewed communities would emerge everywhere. Perhaps this would be a wonderful challenge to be presented to America’s rich. Either way, one has to admire the work that Angelina and Brad have done for not only America but abroad as well.

Paris Hilton is not as superficial as some may think but she still has a lot to prove.

The most important question is: Has Paris obtained the celebrity status she longed so much for? The answer comes quick; she did though not by using traditional methods. She is known worldwide for being one of the partying celebrities, always taking part in scandals and making sure that the tabloids are filled with articles about her. Sex Video? Check. Blonde hair? Check. Lots of money? Check. Welcome to route one to launching a celebrity career. Paris Hilton’s famous “one night in Paris” video seems to have done little to harm her career. Is this perhaps due to the artistic night vision camera work that seems to take its influence from “Silence of the Lambs”? Or perhaps its down to the fine acting?

It is easy to stereotype Paris Hilton as a rich blonde airhead with all the personality and charm of a Skoda. Whilst Paris certainly isn’t the next Mother Teresa nor is she the next Jenna Jameson. Apart from her video Paris is famous for appearing in tv series “The Simple Life”. The premise of this show is that two rich girls learn what it is like to live with “ordinary” people whilst having their credit cards and other luxuries taken away. To be fair to Paris she doesn’t show the obnoxious arrogance that you would expect from a rich girl. She does demonstrate a certain charm and humility. In doing so she gets her audience believing she is just an ordinary girl after all. The social faux pas she makes are generally more down to naivety than malice. Although she seems harmless you get the impression that the show is just a game to her and she is playing all the time. Would Paris go back and work on a farm if she weren’t being paid to be there? Probably not. Perhaps then this is social awareness born out of financial greed.

The problem is that Paris knows that no matter what happens her fortune won’t go away she can always fall back on it. Its like swimming in the sea when you’re little and you know your dad is just a few metres away ready to save you if you falter. That safety net is ever present and removes the risk out of a lot of what Paris does. She will let herself be subjected to working on a farm but knows ultimately that show will end and she will go back to her mansion. The worst thing that could happen would be that the show gets panned. An ordinary person who makes a mistake at work risks getting fired and that affects their livelihood and their existence.

People always noted that Princess Diana was always down to earth when you spoke to her and treated you like you were her equal rather than her subject. This always annoyed me. Why shouldn’t Diana treat you with respect? You ARE just like her. She’s just a person. When your existence is so financially cushioned and the only thing people expect is for you is to be to be humble and kind its not that hard. It is harder to be kind when you don’t have the cards stacked so heavily in your favour. Having these traits when you are rich and famous might make you appear extraordinary in the world of celebrity but it does not make you an extraordinary human being. Humility and kindness are a bare minimum for being a good person what ever your background rather than special trait to be demonstrated when you are rich.

There is something quite sickening if you think about it about shows like ‘The Simple Life’. There was once a J-Lo song called ‘Jenny from the block’. If you don’t know anything about J-LO you will know that she is famed for having a big entourage and making ridiculous demands when she “sings” live. Anyhow In the song jenny from she sings ” don’t be fooled by the rocks that I got, im still im still jenny from the block, I used to have a little and now I have a lot, no matter where I go I know where I came from”. Now excuse me but a person whose diamonds probably cost the price of the average persons wage package singing about how humble she is whilst she’s lying on a on a yacht with Ben Affleck is slightly repugnant. Its like someone sipping champagne and eating caviar whilst talking about drought and famine in Africa. “Im there for you african children don’t worry..mmm this caviar is lovely”.

Ok people are famous, ok they are rich but this kind of thing seems to be like flaunting your success in peoples faces and saying on the other hand im just like you accept me! That’s the problem with things like the simple life. It’s an illusion. Money made J- Lo sing about being a girl from a Bronx rather than her apparent “humble girl next door persona”. Money put Paris Hilton on that farm not some deeper love of working class people. Credit to Paris for standing on her two feet but in many ways she is just a symptom of celebrity culture. A victim of her own background. She could have just done nothing with her life and sat on her fortune. Instead she tried to make her own money .Ironic then that by showing she was like you and me, she just get richer, securing her financial affairs so she will never have to be seen mixing with any of our working class people again! Thanks. No really.

No matter how exhausted I was at the end of the day, I was never able to pat myself on the back for all the good things I had done that had led me to that exhaustion.

I watched my three beautiful babies asleep in their beds. I saw my real estate sales go through the roof. I saw the smiles on faces all around and I knew I must have within me something very good.

And yet I never celebrated. I failed to celebrate myself. I failed to celebrate life. And as all the good things that were right there within my reach slipped away, I felt empty and inadequate.

My personal journey has involved some pretty daunting obstacles along a steep learning curve, but I eventually emerged as a woman who knows her own power and has learned to love herself and the world. Once I learned the secret of a truly celebrated life, I became a fully celebrated woman, and I’ve never looked back.

I am convinced of the potential women have to make the world a better place. That is why I realized a long-time dream to develop an organization to support and assist other women through the same experience. Along with my wonderful partner, Michael Robinson, I founded Women Celebrations. It’s a national organization for women to celebrate their lives fully.

I have identified and overcome my own obstacles, and I see myself today as a potential source of positive energy for everyone -; especially each woman -; I encounter. I explain my own journey to self-fulfillment and success with this affirmation: “With the help of so many, I am raising my level of consciousness to experience all that comes my way.
