Celebrities, Designer Dresses and Latest On Style Look

Oscar, Golden Globes and It’s Influence on Our Style Look.

With the 2009 award shows such as the Oscars approaching and the Golden Globes just passing by, we wonder how the likes of Angelina Jolie,  Cate Blanchett and many others stars who we like, manage to look stunning every time.

The 66th annual Golden Globes this year was absolutely Glam, Chic, and definitely The most Classy one.  Women of any age were after simplicity, elegance and class.  Take a look at best supporting actress winner for “The Reader” Kate Winslet, in Yves Saint Laurent and Chopard, Penelope Cruz in Giorgio Armani Prive and Chopard, Anne Hathaway in Giorgio Armani Prive and Van Cleef & Arpels.  The list would never end…

Every show commands a different style look, and every look is on full display for the critics to dissect.  It’s enough to make the average person crawl in a hole if put in the same position, while the star needs superhero powers to make it through – or at least a team of the best in the business.

You might think that if you had a crew to look after yourself, you’d look like a million dollar as well.  Imagine if you needed to present an award at the Oscars, how would you want to look?  Knowing that your stylist would have your best interest at hand, she would need to head to your favorite designer’s studio to pick the most dazzling looks.   While the jobs of Rachel Zoe and other stylists to the stars are surely stressful this time of year, it must be a dream come true to be the first to view some of these collections.  Being a fashion insider like Zoe would be as inspiring as it is amazing.

It would be hard to choose the one outfit, but I know that sometimes three or more are set aside for the star to decide on, sometimes waiting up to the day of the event.  Of course, fit is taken into consideration, and each piece will be ready, regardless if it is worn.  There is sanctity in knowing that no one else will show up with the same dress.  The jewels, the shoes, the handbag are all precisely chosen, ready to go.

On the day of the event, the assembled team will be ready to powder the star into precise form.  She has most likely been buffed, waxed, and shined to perfection; her limbs bronzed the right shade to show off the lines of her sculpted body.  All of this would be nothing without the perfect  designer gown.   The hair and makeup are faultless, and someone from the team will keep watch as she makes her way down the red carpet.

Who can forget the incredible vintage Valentino that Julia Roberts wore in 2001 to accept her Oscar?  It was Valentino again on Cate Blanchett in pale yellow and burgundy when she accepted her Oscar in 2005.   Or anytime Renee Zelleweger showed up in Carolina Herrera – it was perfection each time.  These women know the power they hold over fashion during the awards season, and the designers cater to them, know that millions of women become spellbound.  It doesn’t matter if the piece comes from the latest collection or is vintage, the fashion has the authority to influence and create sales for designers everywhere.  Each award show televised creates a fashion buzz for women everywhere.

This year, some of the style predictions are for lots of color in the dresses.  The styles themselves will be simple, but played up by dazzling diamonds and statement jewels.   The jewelry will not be of the costume variety, but of fine, unusual stones and unique mountings.  The shoes will be the showstoppers, combining elite materials with towering heels – we will see feathers, ruffles, fringes, and sparkling embellishments.

Fashion designers everywhere use the influence of celebrities and their style to create sometimes one-of-a kind pieces.  A Miami based designer label Natasha Leratti, is known for their unique and elegant sense for evening wear.  Regardless if you are a movie star or a women who wants to be In Style and luxe, your best choice –  is to visit Leratti’s Design Studio.  Anything from a cocktail dress to an evening gown can be done exclusively for your and reflect your personality.  With our professional experience and fashion know-how, we will take you from the simple to the extraordinary to ensure that your night is as perfect as one of the movie stars.

 My Best Regards,

 Your Fashion Designer and Guru,

 Natasha Leratti

Sensual and erotic. Two words that best describe Spanish actress Penelope Cruz. Originally a dancer, she soon moved into Spanish television, and since then appeared in a string of films in Spanish, English, French, Italian, and Portuguese languages.

The 33-year old hot and sexy actress first achieved fame when she appeared in a music video for a Spanish synthpop group. She then became a television presenter and had early exposure in a French erotic tv serial, Serie Rose.

In 1992 came hot and sexy Penelope’s film debut, appearing in Jamon, jamon and the Academy Award-winning foreign language film, Belle Epoque. She made her Hollywood debut in All the Pretty Horses in 2000 and had her first Hollywood lead role the same year in the fantasy romantic comedy, Woman on Top.

Penelope became the target of media tabloids in 2001 when she appeared in Vanilla Sky (a remake of her 1997 film Abre los ojos) and began a highly-publicized affair with Tom Cruise, which lasted for three years. The hot and sexy actress also dated her Sahara co-star Matthew McConaughey from 2005 to 2006. Currently, she is dating Spanish Academy Award-winning No Country for Old Men actor Javier Bardem, her co-star in the upcoming Woody Allen film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

In 2006, Penelope received highly favourable reviews when she starred in Volver. She won a Best Actress ensemble award at the Cannes Film Festival and has been nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and BAFTA Award. She holds the record for being the first Spanish actress to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role.

How to Choose the Right Magazine Subscription

By: admin

People Magazine
Lisa James asked:

Most magazine subscription sellers carry between 600 and 1600 different magazine titles for sale. The ever increasing number of magazines gives customers a list of endless possibilities from which to choose when looking for just the right subscription. The vast amount of choices can be a rather daunting task when trying to narrow down the choices from 50 magazines to maybe one or two. Some of the popular magazine categories may feature even more subscriptions to choose, but there are some tricks to choosing just the right magazine subscription for you.

Read Customer Reviews

Though publishers provide a description of the content and editorial focus of the magazine, it is in their best interest to make the magazine sound as attractive as possible. When available, customer reviews can provide an unbiased view of the magazine from a reader’s perspective. Customer Reviews to magazines can give potential subscribers and readers information on everything from the quality of the content, the number of ad pages featured in a magazine (an ongoing complaint with many readers) to the specific delivery habits of a publisher.

It is important to read more than one review, to be able to gain a general consensus of the magazine. If the general consensus is that magazine quality has suffered or if the editorial focus has changed (for either better or worse) the information is readily available.

Online customers have a decided advantage. There are a number of consumer and shopping sites with this information available. Online Magazine subscription sellers usually encourage their customers to write reviews of the magazines they purchase as a courtesy.

Find Your Niche

Many customers choose a magazine subscription based on the popularity of the magazine or name recognition. Just because a magazine has experienced popularity does not mean that it will fit the need of every customer. Increased competition among publishers has led most publishers to cater to a specific niche within a particular category. Every category will have at least one general interest magazine that seems to cover a wide breadth of information. However, customers tend to be happier with subscriptions that cater directly to them and are geared towards their interests specifically.

For example, Bon Appetit is one of the more popular magazines in the cooking category. The magazine includes recipes, entertainment information, restaurants reviews etc. However, the novice cook would likely be better served purchasing a different subscription. Many of the recipes in Bon Appetit have been categorized as difficult for a beginner with many of the ingredients being difficult to locate. While a great magazine, Bon Appetit is more of a generalist, and is not a good fit for a beginner or someone who is looking for a large number of recipes.

Another example would be the baseball fan that doesn’t particularly care for other sports. A magazine subscription to Baseball Digest would likely be a better fit than a more popular magazine such as Sporting News. Though Sporting News would provide baseball coverage, it would likely lack the in-depth coverage of the aforementioned magazine because of the other sports it needs to cover, and because of space limitations. The Baseball Digest subscriber would also be able to receive Baseball information during the off season when baseball news in other generalist magazines is likely to be limited.

Price Does In Fact Matter

In some instances customers will face having to decide between magazines with the same quality and editorial focus. For example, Sports Illustrated has long been a leader in the sports magazine category. ESPN, known for their television and radio sports broadcasting has experienced phenomenal growth of the ESPN Magazine. Many of ESPN’s issues sell out at the newsstands. Much of the growth has been attributed to the low price of the magazine.

Though customers are interested in quality, cost is important and many customers and publishers are benefiting. People Magazine and National Geographic have definitely felt the competition from magazines like US Weekly, and Discover. These magazines are very similar but are far less costly.

If still in doubt about what magazine subscriptions to purchase after narrowing down the list, buying one or two copies at the newsstand is a great way to find out if a long term commitment is ideal.

Top 10 Celebrity Fears

Silveral asked:

Have YOU ever had a panic attack these can be really scary and may make you shake, sweat and breathe quickly. This happens to celebrities too!

A panic attack can cause a you to think something awful is going to happen, that you can’t escape, or that you might lose control. Some people who have panic attacks say that when the attacks are happening, they feel like they can’t think straight or that they’re “going crazy.”

Such panic attacks only last a short time. But to a person who is having one, they can feel much longer.

So what can bring on such a panic attack. Flying, heights, spiders, the dark. Any or all of these can cause a phobia in people including celebrities.

A national survey of 4,000 adults and 1,600 kids revealed that 56 percent of adults admit they now have a fear or a phobia. The survey found that 86 percent of adults and 91 percent of youngsters admitted to being afraid of something.

Nearly one in five adults also said they are scared of more now than they were as a child.

You may not believe it, but even rich and famous celebrities have common, everyday fears just like the rest of us.

So what scares the stars?

Top 10 Fears of celebrities.

1. If you suffer from Acrophobia: fear of heights you may experience immediate anxiety when high up. This apprehension may include a racing heart, shortness of breath, sweating, chest or abdominal discomfort, trembling, and an emotional response which involves an intense fear – of losing control, embarrassing oneself, or passing out. If you suffer from this you are not alone. Rock star Sheryl Crow says heights and hearing “scary” noises frighten her the most.

2. How many of you hate flying or: Aerophobia With this phobia you may have frightening thoughts (this plane might crash; I’m trapped; I must get out). Did you know that Jennifer Aniston, Cher, Michael Jackson and Whoopi Goldberg all hate and fear flying too. Avoiding this feared situation, means not flying. Such a sacrifice limits these celebrities lifestyles severely as they will find it hard to travel long distances.

3. How about situations like being outside, or in a crowd, or even being on a bridge. Such fears are known as: Agoraphobia a fear of being in places or situations from which there is no escape. You are not alone as Woody Allen and Matthew McConaughey who is scared of tunnels and revolving doors also shares this fear.

4. Anyone scared of spiders? Arachnophobia as they called it in the film about the same dread. You can guarantee Justin Timberlake would not have enjoyed this movie or Jaws as he hates spiders, snakes and sharks.

5. Do you break out in a sweat in those little closed in spaces? Uma Thurman is claustrophobic too. She says that in Kill Bill: Vol 2 where she is buried alive in a coffin. “There was no acting needed. Real screams available,” “It was horrific. Nobody wants to live that experience.”

6. When the weather changes and the skies darken do your hands sweat as the thunderstorm approaches? Well if you happen to be with Madonna at the time she will be scared as she suffers from: Brontophobia: fear of thunder!

7. The vampire slayer suffers from Necrophobia: a fear of death. TV’s vampire-slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar has a real fear of graveyards, so real that she refused to film “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” in a real one.

8. Do you hate your appearance in the mirror first thing in the morning? Alternatively, maybe you experience undue anxiety when you look at a mirror. This Eisoptrophobia a fear of mirrors is irrational. However this fear is grounded in superstitions. You may worry that breaking a mirror will bring bad luck or that looking into a mirror will put you in contact with a supernatural world inside the glass. Well imagine how poor Pamela Anderson feels for she fears mirrors too!

9. If you get the spooks when you see a clown then you might be suffering from Coulrophobia. Johnny Depp, Daniel Radcliffe and Sean “Diddy” Combs are frightened of clowns. “Something about the painted face, the fake smile,” Depp said in 1999 when he was promoting the film “Sleepy Hollow.” “There always seemed to be a darkness lurking just under the surface, a potential for real evil.”

10. Now here is a strange one! While there is no official name for the phobia of butterflies, it has been linked to Mottephobia (Fear of Moths), or a name such as Lepidopterophobia which is an animal group based on insects butterflies and moths. Who could be scared of such things? Well Nicole Kidman for one she says her greatest fear is butterflies!

So there you have it the top 10 list of celebrity fears. Did I mention poor the celebrity with the most phobias is well that award goes to Woody Allen. He’s afraid of insects, sunshine, dogs, deer, bright colors, children, heights, small rooms, crowds, cancer and anywhere except Manhattan. Imagine that!

Celebrities As Role Models For Your Children

Dror Klar asked:

There has been much concern that has developed in recent years about the effect that seeing so many celebrities up close and personal might be having on our children.

So many times famous people like movies stars, music stars, and sports stars live lives that can seem so glamorous and trouble free to our kids. We seem to think that all they see are the advantages that they have.

While it is true that with so much celebrity exposure, this could be a factor in leading children in one direction or another. With television and all that is available to view, children can often be exposed to some things that they should not be. Many channels that we can have access to with satellite and cable, can have content that is inappropriate for some.

Some music and concerts that have adult lyrics can make kids feel more grown up when they sing them. The skimpy clothing that is being worn by young female celebrities and pop stars have little girls as young as five or six wanting to imitate their style. While there is nothing one can say about what other people wear, it is ultimately parents who buy the clothes our kids wear.

Young boys that see their favorite sports star wearing designer clothes and two hundred dollar pairs of tennis shoes may not fully understand that their parents might not be able to afford these things. Many young people have resorted to stealing and worse to get these items.

In recent months especially, there have been incidents where some of the celebrities that our kids love to imitate, have gotten into some serious trouble. In many of these cases these celebrities are paying the price for their actions.

Although it is a sad thing about what many of these young and famous are going through, it is at least good that our children also get to see that there are rules to abide by and sometimes it does not matter who you are.

In being fair to celebrities, there are many who pride themselves on trying to be better role models for their young audiences. As parents we must realize that how our children turn out in life is in large due to how they are raised at home and the time and effort that we put into them.

So if our children end up in trouble of some kind or are heading down the wrong path, it is not fair to place the blame on some celebrity we do not even know. After all, we are the ones who are responsible for our kids, not celebrities and how they live their lives.

The Course of a Celebrity Relationship

Popular celebrity gossip magazines such as Star Magazine and the National Enquirer publish titillating tidbits on the love lives of our favorite celebrities. After a while a pattern seems to emerge and the realization that there is and you can dissect the anatomy of a Hollywood relationship.

Just Friends

Upon meeting and deciding that they would like to begin a relationship it is necessary for the couple to deny all connections to the media. This can be done on the talk show circuit, on their website and of course through their publicists. They will of course admit to knowing one another but of course the relationship is always strictly platonic, and they are of course just friends. This is of course until they are ready to come out as a couple, and then will begin to travel the awards show circuit together, and are seen canoodling in public.

We Are Not Engaged

Unfortunately, A list celebrities can do very little without being stalked by the paparazzi. All trips to the jewelry store are suspect, and is generally met with excitement and transplanted upon the pages of gossip shows and magazines. My heart goes out to the prospective groom who may change his mind and is now expected to propose that may have changed his mind for whatever reason.

The Break Ups

I have something of a sixth sense about impending celebrity break ups. The signs are always there, but of course denial is always the name of the game.

Couples that are happy together and are eager to be in the company of one another tend to smile and hold one another. For a myriad of reasons celebrities do not always announce their splits right away and often continue to make the rounds with each other. They rarely smile and once they do it looks painful.

There may be instances of one part of the dynamic duo is seen behaving inappropriately with someone else by cameras or rumors of a budding romance on the set of a movie start making the rounds. Of course, the entertainment industry is business after all. The announcement of a breakup will occur but it must be times perfectly. The old adage is that all publicity is good publicity. What could be more compelling than a starlet who has had her heart broken? Especially if it happens to occur around the same time that her new romantic comedy is opening up and she finds the man of her dreams.

Celebrity Spotting in London

Andrew Regan asked:

London is one of the world’s greatest cities filled with celebrities from all areas of the entertainment and sporting worlds, and it’s easy to find them if you know where to look. Apart from on the streets where most celebrities who don’t draw attention to themselves find it easy to go largely unnoticed, there are many regular haunts at which you can spot the rich and famous.

Probably the first place in London where most people and a small army of paparazzi go to spot A-list celebrities is the Ivy restaurant. Regularly frequented by big-name celebs such as Elton John, David Bowie and Tom Cruise, the Ivy offers extremely expensive and comfortable fare, in 1920s decor with stained glass windows. But, it is neither the quality of food or the restaurant’s surrounding’s that attract the majority of diners, but the chance that they will get to rub shoulders with some of the world’s top celebrities. You may get into this restaurant but you will have to book at least six months in advance!

Another place to spot celebs is the Groucho, but only outside; there is little chance of admission to this establishment as it is a private club. It was named after a quip made by the great movie legend Groucho Marx, who famously once said: “I don’t want to join a club that would have me as a member!” Situated in the heart of Soho it was originally a refuge for members of the publishing profession, but membership was extended to include proponents of the creative arts and media. The mysterious membership committee ensures that entry to the club is fiercely protected and the initiation ceremony for new entrants to the club is allegedly extremely hair-raising! Celebrity regulars at Groucho’s include actors Robert Downey Jr. and Sadie Frost, and model Kate Moss.

Although frequented by celebrities and the rich and famous for many years Lorenzo’s in Knightsbridge was catapulted into the public eye in the 1990s when it was identified as one of Princess Diana’s favourite haunts. Offering mainly straight-forward Italian cuisine, the restaurant still proves a magnet for celebrities, and frequent visitors include Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Naomi Campbell amongst others. The tinted windows provide an element of privacy to the always packed restaurant. Its popularity in part is due to the abundance of 5 star hotels in Knightsbridge at which the rich and famous regularly stay when in London. Again, if you want to dine at this celebrity restaurant make you sure you book well in advance!

Today’s love affair with celebrity culture means that celebrity spotting continues to be high on many people’s lists of past-times, and there is no better place in the UK to see the stars in the flesh than in the mighty capital – London.

The Jobs Of Celebrities Before They Were Famous

Gail Kenny asked:

Anyone who is becoming disillusioned with their online job search and has found themselves looking enviously onto the effortless lives of celebrities can take comfort in the fact that they haven’t always had it this easy. Even the most glamorous celebs have crumpled discarded CVs that they’d rather we never see. Fortunately, the internet has made it rather easy to research celebrities’ embarrassing occupations before they were famous…

Without further ado, here’s a list of 10 celebrities’ jobs from before they were famous:

Sir Bob Geldof – Pea Canner

The outspoken former frontman of the Boomtown Rats and face of the ‘Make Poverty History’ movement took on all kinds of dead-end jobs before finding his calling in music. He worked as a road navvy, a hot dog vendor, a slaughterman and finally an exciting career in pea canning before getting a job as a music journalist in Canada.

Sylvester Stallone – Porn Star

Stallone’s tough reputation may have begun in one of his first pre-celebrity jobs – a lion cage cleaner! Years later, after dropping out of Miami University, Stallone pursued his acting dreams, but the ‘Rocky’ star had a long way to go before he was famous and his place in Hollywood history – one of his first films was called ‘Party at Kitty and Stud’s’, which is exactly as high brow as it sounds. This silver screen ‘classic’ was a hardcore pornographic film, which has since been repackaged on the back of Stallone’s success as a softcore release entitled ‘Italian Stallion’ – a reference to Rocky Balboa’s nickname.

Rod Stewart – The Grave Digger

After trying out for a football career with Scottish giants Celtic and London minnows Brentford, a young Rod Stewart decided the glamorous career of a footballer wasn’t for him and opted for the not-so-glamorous career as a grave digger. He wasn’t there for too long though, before pursuing a career in music. The Maggie May songwriter took up street singing, travelling around Europe… indeed he was actually deported from Spain for vagrancy for his art!

Madonna – Dunkin’ Donuts Worker

Madonna is now one of the best selling female music artists of all time, but somehow this will have seemed an unlikely scenario for her 20 year old self upon arriving in New York with just $35 to her name. Over the course of these tough months before she became famous, the ‘Like a Prayer’ singer made ends meet by taking on a range of low paying jobs including a stint serving customers at ‘Dunkin’ Donuts’. An exhibitionist even in those days, she also took on some nude modelling work to supplement the limited fast-food income before finding her celebrity job calling…

Michael Dell – Dishwasher

At the age of 12 the founder of Dell computers, Michael Dell was washing dishes in a Chinese restaurant for $2.30 an hour. With Dell Inc. now worth over $16 billion, I would hope that the CEO is allowing himself a better salary than he earned at the restaurant.

Helen Mirren – Amusement Park Promoter

Long before she was famous and had won her Oscar, SAG Awards, BAFTAs, Golden Globes and Emmy Awards, Dame Helen Mirren had the slightly less glamorous role of attracting punters to use the rides at an amusement park in Southend on Sea. It’s unclear whether she won as many accolades in this period of her life…

Paul Daniels – Accountant

The magician and entertainer Paul Daniels was in the army, serving in Hong Kong during his national service. On his return he began training as an accountant in the civil service before leaving to run a small mobile grocery business owned by his parents. While performing magic in the evenings, the door to show business was eventually opened to him.

Jack Nicholson – Mailroom Worker

The veteran actor and star of classics like A Few Good Men, The Shining and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was reportedly discovered working in MGM’s mailroom. Before that, the three times Oscar winner had worked in a toy store and as a lifeguard.

Jerry Seinfeld – Lightbulb Retailer

Before he became famous as a comedian and sitcom star, Jerry sold lightbulbs over the phone. After no doubt being on the end of several aggressive customers, Jerry made fun of his former career on his hit sitcom by telling a cold-caller that it was a bad time and asking if he could call them back later when they’re at home trying to relax.

Brad Pitt – Man in a Chicken Suit

Now regarded as one of the most desirable men on the planet, you’d be hard pushed to see that in Brad Pitt when he handed out flyers outside El Pollo Loco Restaurant in Los Angeles dressed in a chicken suit! Even the role of refrigerator delivery man, although a step up, is a far cry from his current status! As the most embarrassing celebrity job in the list, we can’t imagine Brad looks back fondly on his occupations before he was famous!

So, aside from a slight feeling of smugness, what have we gained from seeing what these celebrities’ occupations before they were famous? Not much, but it’s clear that celebrities come from all walks of life and you never know when you might be spotted. Hopefully that’ll give you the impetus to return to your online job search with renewed vigour, afterall sir Bob Geldof wasn’t stuck canning peas forever!

The Impact Fame Has On The Personal Life Of A Celebrity

Amy Nutt asked:

Celebrities have a huge impact on peoples’ lives in the world today. A lot of people can’t go through one day without checking the web, or their favorite celebrity magazine to read about the latest celebrity gossip, and the most up to the minute juicy tidbit of news about their favorite famous person. Celebrities can range from an actor or actress, singer, writer, movie producer or director, or reality show contestant. There are also people who are famous for “being famous”, such as Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie.

Most people just gobble up any item of “news” that they can get about their favorite celebrities. It is too easy to focus on someone else’s problems, so you don’t have to give attention to your own difficulties! What these people don’t think about is the fact that the more they read about and purchase information about these celebrities, the less privacy these people have in their lives. It’s really no wonder that the majority of celebrities out there today mess up do often – they are under a serious amount of pressure!

When someone finally reaches “celebrity status” in today’s world, it is great at first. They start to get recognized on the street every now and again, and every once in a while, they will get a meal for free just because the restaurant owner or manager is a big fan of the television show that they appear on. After a while, however, after they have climbed higher on the celebrity ladder, it gets to be not so much fun for these people. The paparazzi follow them everywhere they go, usually taking very awful and embarrassing pictures that cause fans to think that they are anorexic or pregnant or near death. The paparazzi don’t just follow them on the street, but they also hide in trees near these celebrities’ homes, taking pictures of their private, personal lives and printing them for the entire world to see the next day.

Being in the public eye so much definitely has a huge impact on the personal lives of our celebrities. When you think about it, if you could not leave your house to take a walk, or go to the local café for a latte without being swamped by cameras and reporters, your life wouldn’t be much of a life either! Celebrities also receive phone calls every now and again from worried friends and relatives who see the tabloids in the grocery store and think that their friend or relative is dead or terminally ill, or about to split up with their spouse. The tabloids and magazines pretty much have a 100% record of being completely untrue, but people still worry!

Even when celebrities want to get married, they sometimes have to choose a spouse who is also in the public eye, because when someone is not used to the cameras and craziness, it can be too much for them to handle, along with a new marriage. Also, any famous person who dates a non famous person cannot help but wonder if their significant other would want to be with them if they were not a celebrity. When celebrities do get married and have children, life is harder for their families as well because of their parents’ celebrity status.
